apocalyptica

jung described the archetypes of the collective unconscious as ‘spontaneous phenomena which are not subject to our will, and we are therefore justified in ascribing to them a certain autonomy.’  a mythological or archetypal complex-such as the judeo-christian apocalypse-is, from this jungian perspective, ultimately a psychic event that can take material manifestation, like a collective dream coming to life.

p. 10 pinchbeck’s 2012:  the return of quetzalcoatl

i really disliked this book, but there were a handful of quotes, mostly pulled from others, that i liked thinking about.  pinchbeck in general though seems like one of these ‘intellectuals’ that, aside from not even being that smart, seems to never have experienced any profound or spiritual or shattering moment in his entire life.

mysterium tremendum

i like the word numinous a lot.also, i liked the movie melancholia, despite it not being a black and white foreign film.  i like the idea of a mainstream movie pushing this acceptance of your own utter worthlessness (beyond, ya know, being nice, as in kind to your fellow worthless ones), cause i feel like they usually do the oppposite.  and it reminds me of ‘pale blue dot,’ by carl sagan, which i was just reading the other eve.

unattached

our thoughts, our beliefs, are not attached to us.  they fall away if we do not hold onto them…
any belief not lived is empty baggage.  goswami p. 249

oh and i’m such a sucker for holding on.  i like the lightness of the lack of material things in my life.  maybe i should translate that into a tool for purging any stale ideas crumpled up into the corners of my pockets.

paralyzation via neutralization of the ego

the imperative conditions that create a double-bind are that a) two people are involved and b) there is a bond between these two people that cannot be broken.  that is, the situation is such that the person in the double-bind has temporarily surrendered his ego autonomy.  of course, once the jump to a new context of living takes place-an event called satori- the job of the master is accomplished, and he lovingly releases the double-bind.

the quantum and classical dance

the creative individual’s ego has to be strong-willed to be persistent and has to be able to handle the anxiety associated with unknowing-with the quantum jump into the new. p. 228 goswami

so it’s the tangled-hierarchical encounter of the classical and quantum modalities of the mind that lets us leap frog to new creative spaces.  well i can’t say i’ve ever considered my ego to be very well formed, but i do consider one of my few strengths to be patience with the unknown…i believe i have a talent for not jumping…to conclusions, easy solutions, etc.  this could just be a comfortable familiarity with the practice of torturing oneself, but i’d like to think it could be viewed instead as a skill, if one wanted…see my notes on the story of b
